I awoke with my head throbbing.
Eyes red and burning,
But I had stopped sobbing.
I thought of ’76 and our first class,
Your 10 year old explanation of catholic mass.
I thought of your giggle and that huge heart,
how you lit up our room right from the start.
I thought of sleep-overs, skating rinks and walks,
laughter and tears and our long talks.
I thought of Nicey and the Five & Dime,
Our adolescent attempts at petty crime.
I thought of the years we then spent apart.
How you never left me; you stayed in my heart.
I thought of my joy to find you again,
the happiness you gave me, my forever friend.
